"A picture's worth a thousand followers"

Photography is a side activity and optional pastime in San Andreas Connection.

Description

Photography is a part of the Los Santos subculture, resonant within selfies and snapmatics featuring their daily lunch. Niko Bellic has the opportunity to partake in taking digital pictures within San Andreas Connection's world.

At first, the feature is an optional gameplay element, in the form of Snapmatic. However, as the player progresses, a more advanced version of Snapmatic, and eventually a camera are obtained.

Snapmatic

The most basic form of taking in-game pictures. Snapmatic is immediately made accessible from the start of the game, as a built-in app on the in-game phone. Snapmatic allows for basic filters, borders, depth of field support, and the option to take advantage of both cameras on the phone - allowing for selfies, or landscape shots.

Snapmatic 2.0

The 'premium' version of Snapmatic. Available to purchase on the Farmer's Market on the in-game phone for .99 GTA$. This version of the app allows for more complex image manipulation, including contrast, brightness, and image levels support. More filters are accessible, and images can be saved in both portrait and landscape, a feature not present on the stock version of the app.

Camera

Niko eventually has the option to purchase a camera after progressing in the Photography activity. Building up the players' Snapmatic portfolio unlocks the camera at the Apertureoid site. The camera costs $100 GTA$.

This unlocks the ability to store higher-resolution images in-game, as well as more complex features, such as monochrome support, and adjustable depth of field, not present on the 2.0 Snapmatic upgrade. A higher degree of zoom is available, and more aspect ratios are available to save in, such as 4:9, 5:3, 2:1, 16:9, etc.

Missions

Niko has the option of participating in photo ops around the map, ranging from simple murals, to requests at high-stakes events, such as movie premiers. Each time a photo op is completed, the player earns money and builds their portfolio, which unlocks more missions and editing capabilities.

Requests are made for Niko's services after completing 100 photo ops and thus completing the portfolio. Niko has the option to search for requests on Craplist and to contact the advertiser for information. After a reply, the mission will be displayed on the map.

After a mission is completed, Niko will earn money as well as reputation in missions, thus granting more opportunities for requests. Each mission is a separate strand, so no two missions are ever repeated or similar.

Niko has the option to turn down money for a shoot, which may or may not impact Niko's reputation. All missions can be completed in random order.

Unlocks

Eventually, Niko has the ability to print his photographs to display in safehouses. This feature is unlocked after completing 100 photo ops.

After completing the Portfolio Mission 'Paleto', Niko receives an email from the client, Evan. He says that he appreciates Niko's services for the shoot and wants to give Niko a gift in exchange for no money. Evan says to wait several days for the package to arrive. When Niko enters his safehouse after this mission, the package will be delivered, containing an Instant Camera, along with several packs of film. Niko may now use this for photo ops and missions.

Trivia

  1. Apertureoid is a parody of the now-defunct Polaroid company.
